The title sounded as if it was a very "thought about" kinds. A very powerful team was behind the making of it. Along with the big names like Agni Sridhar & the likes, there are also some untapped talents which see light in the movie. Good enough, but my experience ended up being a very so - so, leaving me feeling that there must be something in the movie that is worth appreciating., I am still thinking....

TOI gives senseless reviews is a known fact. TOI gives a 4 star for Tamassu , highly appreciated, but honestly I didnt feel it was that great. Worst to add while the review said First half is great, actually, The movie makes sense only in the second half. Dunno, when TOI will give perfect reviews.

I really want to appreciate the team, their hardwork & honesty , but I find it difficult to find a valid reason. May be some more home work should have helped. The movie is a package where sometimes you feel great, sometimes, Oh No!, sometimes, may be they could have tried better.

Worth Appreciating are some flash of brilliance sequences, some good songs, some good literature. Padmapriya- is worth mentioning. She makes a mark even in her scope-less role. Hey, whoever has done her voice-over, Kudos to you, I am sure without your support Padmapriya's character// her performance wouldn't have been as effective. You make her complete/ Coming to or rather Coming back to Padmapriya - one needs to admire her ease on the screen, She is for all those who believe that heroines need not necessarily jump & make cute faces, etc. funny huh !

Shivanna is good, but lacks consistency & continuity in performance. Dunno what happens to him, you'll see him suddenly jump from the seat, turning his eyes red for almost everything. Most of the times his body language doesnt match his expressions. Shivanna - its high time you work on this. His problem is , he is a Director's actor, he can't think on his own. May be because he comes from an old school of thought, where, you come, you do what is asked of you & you are done. However, his sincerity, his belief in the movie reflects in every frame. Memorable sequences, 1> the hammer one....2> when he takes on the goons in Naazar's house - daring it is 3> His Confession scene where he rattles out a long dialogue with comfort along with a couple of monologues. Emotional scenes are best suited for you.

Finally Sreedhar sir, mixed reviews, reason is clear, The potential is there, its got a good team but somewhere it doesnt convince . The concept of a Police Officer feeling guilty and rectifying one family's problem is fine, but the connection doesn't get established appropriately. We don't come out of the theatre thinking that the problem is solved., Happy ending....nah. I feel its incomplete. Even Shivanna doesn't look all that rugged in the first half for us to believe that he is trigger happy. So, the transformation is very unconvincing.

Nevertheless, the team does offer some good experience, I am sure we may not be there but we are getting There...& Guys & gals that can happen only when good or bad, we watch it & give feedback.

What with Sudeep commenting on his very own reality show that, by the time our " Pete Hudugi's" decide to come & watch a kannada movie in the theater in its 3rd week running, Producers like him would have to hang themselves waiting for audience. Look at the statistics he shared on the same show. Today KFI makes movies for an actual market of 10 lakhs kannadigas, whereas Karnataka has a population of more than more 5 crores, so where are the rest of the kannadigas & what are they watching ? Question to ponder....Any comments anybody ?

Pruthvi - Review

A Hard core Puneeth fan that I am, I was awaiting the release of " Pruthvi". Coming from a director like Jacob Verghese who gave us "Savaari" , I defnitely had huge expectations from this one. My curiosity led me to find out a couple of details on the net that it was all about an IAS officer fighting against the Bellary Mining Politics. Uff! I thought, that looked so much like, " That 70's show". I was definitely disheartened. That was not what I expected from a sensible actor like Puneeth. All the Ambarish, Vishnuvardhan & Devraj's of the world had done it already. :( ....

I still decided to watch it for the sake that I have already given a couple of Puneeth movie's a miss, instance Raam ( I didnt want to watch a remake). Thankfully I didnt regret my decision.

Unlike the review from Times of India, I thought that Pruthvi attempted to address a much bigger issue than just fighting against Bellary Mine Politics. I wonder why the reporter who reveiwed the movie didnt see the purpose behind the subject. Issues like Border encroachment, Money lords ruling our state, Young people giving up on education for a job in call centre rather than setting up a strong base for themselves, etc...I guess, we need to wake up about these. What Pruthvi is exactly this...open our eyes towards all these realities. Pruthvi advocates that its not only software & multinational company jobs that is there to success, a government job can also be fascinating. Today many of us are least bothered about what is happening to our state, its individuality & uniqueness. The protagonist's effort in emphasising the social responsibility of every government servant is amazing, " ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನಿಮಗೆ ಏನ್ರೀ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ, ನೀವ್ ಸತ್ರೆ ನಿಮ್ ಹೆಂಡತಿಗೆ ಪೆನ್ಶನ್ ಕೂಡ ಕೊಡತ್ತೆ " is a slap on the corrupt officials who give in to bribe to make their future safe & secure. I guess, Media also needed that jolt of realising their social responsibility in the way the hero ridicules that they even telecast a child stuck in the borewell LIVE for 3 days. Above all Puneeth shines as a simple officer doing his duty & not as a star, Thankfully his character is not Stylised , nor does he appear as a hero throughout the movie.

However, my verdict in answer to the reveiw of Times of India. Guys, you need to understand that you have the power to encourage the kind of movies that will be made in the future. Your discouraging reviews for such movies can lead to good movies not being made at all. If this is your yardstick, then upcoming directors will never get an opportunity & moviemakers will have to stick to formula based stuff churning out of sandalwood. Movies like Pruthvi are needed for kannadigas who need to be aware of our current political scenario & realise our contribution to it.
So.... for heaven's sake , can we encourage some movies not because they are Puneeth or Sudeep movies, but for the content and substance.

People verdict:

Heard from people: Many said "Good movie - Puneeth is amazing", some said , " it is like Gangaajal- the one with Ajay Devgan" , " a strong sense of Kaakka Kaakka",... but we needed one for our land.

Verdict on the movie : Not for Puneeth fans but for people who are serious about the message that it carries more than the entertainment quotient. If you understand it, the movie rocks.

Verdict on Puneeth: Great performance...your genuinity/ dedication shows on screen. You prove that you are a Powerstar even with a subtle performance of this sort. Unlike your other movies, you have very few dialogues in the movie but very strong ones. In fact , we are very happy that you are walking on the lines of your father & are trying to give good movies that help create good values, people & society.

Verdict on Parvathi Menon: She is a gift to Kannada screen, I say this with utmost sincerity. We kannadigas should be extremely happy with the kind of movies she has been part of & esply. for learning kannada & dubbing in her own voice. A true mark of a performer. She is superb as a simple, educated house wife of a DC. Both Puneeth & Parvathi make a great pair on screen , portraying a beautiful picture of ideal husband- wife, simple love- support magic on screen.

Verdict on Director: Your honest efforts of making a good movie is seen , but you could have still tried to come out of the Kaakka Kaakka or Gangaajal type of influences. The climax is actually very unconvincing. But, otherwise, good movie. Thanks for not making the songs a commercial aspect, they are as it they should be , soft & subtle blending well with the flow of the movie & not stand alone points.

Finally & Finally:

A word to all kannadigas: Please encourage such movies, else, Puneeth will go back to ಲಾಂಗ್ & ಮಚ್ಚು , Directors like Jacob will be lost, Actresses like Parvathi will have to go back to being an eye candy or end up crying in a family movie.

.

Tiger, Tiger burning bright ....

Tiger Tiger. burning bright,

In the forests of the night;

What immortal hand or eye.

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

This is when I fell in love with this majestic animal, while I was in school, my teacher reciting this poem by William Blake made it so beautiful, that I could not but understand what royal pride it carried in itself. Everything about it....its eyes, its look, its walk , means perfection. Fearful though, but I have always nurtured the idea of petting a tiger cub in my arms. Sounds stupid, but, I know I may not be able to touch a real Tiger, hence, the cubs. Savour this....

"When the stars threw down their spears

And watered heaven with their tears:

Did he smile His work to see?

Did he who made the lamb make thee?"

Fear or Stupidity, Love or just Admiration, There's something about this wild beast that I have always loved. May be that is why I don't feel very good when I hear that we have only 1411 Tigers in India. I don't know what I could do or stop this from happening. But I know for sure, that they don't deserve this. All that I could do sitting in a city to save our neighbours in the forests, is to voice out my support online. I urge you to do it too. It's REPUBLIC DAY.... all the channels on the (no more) idiot box are weaving their own set of programs to create enough patriotic feelings amongst the viewers. While some of them did their bit with one or two patriotic movies and some songs, may be some discussions, what stood out was ZOOM tv's efforts to recreate one of the most cherished memories of our association with television industry. The Times of India group & Zoom brought to us a very beautifully recreated " Mile Sur mera tumhara" which was almost considered an anthem in those days(nearly 23 years).

The first one definitely had a much younger Amitabh & the recent one includes many more stalwarts, celebrities of today's India. Should we say, we see a much stronger India, a much bigger India, a much more stylish India. Well, we also miss some legendary faces like Bhimsen Joshi, Balamurali Krishna, Pt. Ravishanker & others but, we have the next genre artistes who are taking the legacy forward like Anoushka Shankar, Rahul Sharma, Aman- Ayaan, Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy & Louiz Banks holding up the pride of India in the video.

The video wins where it lives up to capture the strength of India in all spheres. Music, choreography, styling, conceptualisation is amazing. Hats off, to Salman who includes the hearing impaired & Shilpa Shetty who brings in the cause of Women upliftment. Unfortunately , it left me a little disappointed to see that the video doesn't capture the true essence of a kannadiga like it does with all other Indian Languages. While actors Vikram & Surya represent Tamil, Mahesh Babu represents Telugu, Mammootty, KJ Yesudas & his son Vijay represents Malayalam, Atul Kulkarni & Sonali Kulkarni represent Maharashtra. Its a treat to watch them all in their true essence of their regional flavours, Some shine in their ethnic costumes like Prasenjit- Rituparna ( Bengali), Atul- Sonali(Maharashtra), some just celebrate the sweetness of their language mouthing Mile sur in their own Language( like Vikram , Surya & Mahesh Babu). That's exactly what we miss in the kannada bit of Phir Mile Sur. I am sure the previous one where we just had a one liner with Prakash Padukone singing " Nanna danige ninna daniya.." was so much more effective than the current one. With all due respect to Dr. L. Subramniam & family who represent the Kannadigas in the video, My question to the makers is that "Didn't you find a Kannadiga amongst 5 million kannadigas who could do our bit for this National Video?"," What is so kannada about this bit?". Coming from a Cosmopolitan like Bangalore, I could relate & understand every other line in Tamil, Telugu & even Marathi, but I couldn't follow my own language in this video. The lines were "not so Kannada" coming from a set of Non Kannadiga family. Kavitha Krishnamurthy & family- we respect you yes, but , I dont think we can stand or appreciate mispronunciation of words in the little slot we have here & Sound so "not-kannada" on national TV. However, I would have appreciated if the makers would have done a little more research & checked out the talent here in Karnataka who could do justice & much better represent the Identity of Karnataka. I may be sounding very chauvinistic or very strong, but dear makers I don't think Karnataka requires borrowed talent to hold our pride. All that I want to say is , if you could have been so choosy about getting the best Gujarathi singer to feature the Gujarathi bit where he sounds Gujarathi, the audience could see Gujarat there, & likewise Kerala & culture of Kerala was so evident in its bit, but we didnt see Karnataka in the Video.

In our very own way , Karnataka's cultural space is booming with Talent which can uphold true spirits of being a kannadiga. I am sure, we would have loved to see a Rajesh Krishnan or a Hemant, Archana Udupa or MD Pallavi, Upendra, Puneet Rajkumar or even Ganesh standing in for us. Finally its not about other languages being represented well and our's not. We are aware that its about national integrity & each region getting its own chance to salute the nation in its own way, but dear makers both, Aarti Gupta & Kailash Surendranath, nothing about the Kannada piece in the video is Kannada except for the location which is Big Banyan tree.

& here's Karnataka for you - namma Naadu - My country ! I have put this together & just wanted to give you a dekko into the talent pool of our land. Needless to say, everyone who features in this video belongs to Karnataka, & the list is not exhaustive.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v23.nonxt7.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Ddfc35a3f5f48e353%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331078430%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D76F84F19140514278D107FCABC0EBFE21089A62D.418A67BEDD7FEE2D9594E8EDF218381CB66A4E13%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Ddfc35a3f5f48e353%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D7vQoFRpZs-taMaSTVlZV-saIgLA&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Happy Republic Day !!

God ! I am sorry it may not be right on my part to generalise, but to a certain extent it is true. One can still wonder how men are ok with spending another day in their life without having any meaning to it, how they can sleep, eat, drink & party without a reason. How they can doze off in a busy bus, when their wife is still struggling to meet ends. How they can give up to adultery. How they live up to the minute & live only for the minute. May be this "living up to the minute" attitude, is what leads to many complications in our lives.

Thank God ! the world is not only full of these men, to the goodness of God , he also gave us some who are sensible enough, not to "live for the moment".

God, can you send more of these, we are short in supply !

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hemaaz.blogspot.com/2009/11/god-do-you-hear-us.html' title='God ! When we sat down for a cup of tea together what we spoke was not of the darshan or the journey. My dad was not his usual self when he spoke of the Money Market, the downsizing in the Out sourcing industry , about the tight fisted banks etc, etc. "Etc, etc" !!! - I must be sorry , I took it so light. I visited my Car dealer today, he also seemed to have understood why his sales numbers are looking not so good.

I felt it was quite strange , everyone seemed to be talking about it and everyone are talking quite seriously about it. Everyday News paper is awaited to see what other turn has the market taken this time. This actually put my little brain into act, wondering what could have happened, what could be the intensity & impact of this entire phenomena? What ? what? what ? Why? why ? why?

Interestingly , I got quite a few answers from one of the discussions with a VSL (Very Senior Leader*) during a Brown Bag*. He started with a beautiful Example, " Have you seen an Hour Glass? " he asked. " The contents of the hour glass when inverted pulls down everything that is there with it to the bottom..... and that is exactly what is happening to the market". Quite simple isnt it? . Talk about House of cards, or a building relying on several pillars , one of them cracks down , the structure is bound to fall. In reality, The Banks fell and are pulling down the entire economic structure with them. Dating back to couple of decades, when the market was good some of the Financial institutions made a mistake of over rating the market growth and took up the risk of lending and lending and lending with very little/without security. The so called "Assets" of the bank also could not bail the banks out of this situation, hence, the Banks had to close down. Now, this calls for a chain reaction where Banks are the " Hearts" of any Economy coz they pump in money in to the market by providing Finance to manufacture , sell & grow. Having left with very few options of raising funds , the Industry avoids taking risk and avoids new venture/ projects, etc. While this is happening in the "Seller Market", lets look at the Buyer Market, his purchasing power comes down ( No finance available), he gets stringent with his choices, demand goes down, prices go up. Uff , now this is getting into too much of Economics ( I wish I took my Economics paper more seriously while in college, huh! ). So, we definitely understand it is a chain reaction that is going to affect every segment of the Economy. But , is there something that we can learn out of it? May be, yes.

Lets turn to History for some time, this down turn is not the first of its kind in the human history. Who can forget having read about the 1929 , Great Depression in the United States. I have been referred a book to understand the same from a different perspective, its called the Grapes of Wrath, while this gives us a Social perspective of the Great Depression , the Phenomena can be better understood on the Wikipedia . Should we now say History repeats itself. May be / May be not , its too early to come to conclusions. But, America some day had to pay this price. I am sure you would agree if I said , somewhere, America's callous lifestyle is one of the reasons for this entire phenomena. I still remember, having heard that Half ( or was it 75%) of America lives in credit. I may sound too nasty singling out America for this. Well, this applies to all those who believed in a life style of buy now , pay later. India according to me was just getting there and facing a boom that was too superficial. For ex: Bangalore's real estate.

We talked about learning lessons, May be this is one of the biggest lessons, we can learn today. Sometimes it is good to have a conservative approach or shall I make it sensible approach ( I was really sounding conservative when I said that). A sensible approach towards everything including our spending habits, our work, our life, our people, our learning. Simply , can we keep our feet on the ground and not in the air. It calls for some discipline in every one's life to condition ourselves, professionally, personally, mentally, physically , spiritually. What do I mean ? picture this, Professionally - bring in more dedication in to work - more selfless work. Personally - know what exactly you want & bring in more focus to achieve the kind of life you want. uff , not again, you know me , me me , the preacher. But honestly guys, we need to give it a thought. Don't you think we need to change & for the Better? Remember , its all Micro before it turns Macro. so, lets start at a micro level and be the change we want to see.

Leave in your comments to let me know if you agree / disagree / hate / love my thoughts. whatever you do , my thoughts are still mine and mine only.

Gubbachchi reviews Vamshi ......

What am I talking about ?

Kannada Movie - "VAMSHI"

Starring : Puneeth Rajkumar aka Appu / Lakshmi / Nikitha / Ravi Kale / Avinash

Director : Prakash of " Milana" and "Khushi" fame.

Rating : **** 1/2 stars

Having got the privilege of watching Vamshi on the first day of release, my expectations from the movie were not too high. having been tagged as the " Mother - Son" sentiment movie, I was worried it would try to imitate the erstwhile hit movie Jogi.

Here's my Verdict : Watch it once , twice , thrice !

For the stupendous performance of Lakshmi as the mother of a Police trainee turned Rowdy.

Watch it once , twice , thrice !

For Puneeth Rajkumar who delivers powerhouse performance from the word Go. He's not called " Power Star" for the sake of it for sure.

Watch it once , twice , thrice !

For the tight grip on the narration of director Prakash who keeps the audience glued to the seat till the end. What a shift from " Milana" to " Vamshi ", Hats Off ! Prakash .

The story originates from an age old saying," Criminals are not born but situation makes them". But if you think that this is just another one in the stream, then you are wrong. A string of the same has been woven into a completely unimaginable storyline that keeps one wondering what next?. Here's a bundle of surprises, twists & turns.

Puneeth gives a wonderful performance as an aggressive Police trainee who aims to clean the society as a good police officer. Cliche ? ! nah! Twist comes when the topper is rejected of a posting due to his background, his father being a Rowdy. His dreams shattered, his efforts to come out of the dark world- lost, he gets unnecessary media attention which raises him to the position of successor of the deceased Don( Kotnal Rama) . I guess the tagline of the movie " Vamshi - Destiny's child" gets justified here. How does he handle this ? Does Vamshi become a police officer or gets dragged into the underworld? Watch the movie to find out !

Bonus Points :

Charming Nikita - ever smiling , very bubbly & energetic finally matches the steps with Puneeth.

Music - R P Patnaik , couple of melodious & peppy numbers like " Bhuvanam" , " Jothe - Jotehyali", "Amalu", etc.

Puneeth for a toned Physique and dedicated performance. For once , our actors have understood that it is not just enough to act , but you have to live the character you play.

Rajkumar banner for living upto our expectations after OM.

will leave you with this peppy number from Vamshi.....

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v24.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D2382e41388d4fe6d%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331078430%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D32FE22D184EDE5B7080F5F98F182762591B94298.2035A8282184E97095D1C50AD28EEF04A3F138CE%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D2382e41388d4fe6d%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DEdf56ZYJZp7ox_q5GMckfcSFSS8&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Gubbachchi Took off to Mysore

Hey all, It was pretty unplanned that gubbachchi took off to Mysore this weekend over some pretty urgent issues that needed immediate attention. After completing the needful being done, it definitely found some good time to spend trying to revisit Mysore.

It was just the right time as it was the Pre Dasara season and Mysore was waking up from slumber for the festivities.

Wow! what a welcome break. Sometimes it is nice to go to a different place just to see how Life is out there and that's exactly what gubbachchi did, rather than visiting some historical monuments. Well, I won't say that about Mysore's Palaces, coz I still see a lot of Life in them. The main Palace situated in the heart of the city was getting ready for a coat of polish & refinery awaiting the Dasara. Workers working round the clock setting the stage to bring the Royal Grandeur alive was something that gave a glimpse of how the people in Mysore put in their collective efforts to keep the tradition alive. Going round the palace one could get a close feeling of how the Raja's & Maharaja's led their life being in the Royal Family. You would love to see their Asana's , Diwan's the Throne preserved so very well. Still glittering & telling the stories of the Royal Mysore family. Steps further introduce you to the interest that the family took in patronising art & Music. Adorning the walls are the beautiful Mysore style paintings so delicately done to every detail.

The Pillars & the walls apart you would also get to see an up close view of the life led by the Royal Family if you happen to visit the in-house Museum situated in the same premise. A series of Framed photographs of the Royal Family members welcome you once you step into the museum. The museum doesn't disappoint one who expects more than photographs and paintings to know about the Wodeyars. You would get to almost touch see the chariots, Carts ridden by Goats ( mEke - Gaadi), Utensils, Furniture , their wardrobe consisting of the wodeyar's lovely Royal Gowns , their Shoes , even Goggles, & glasses preserved in its case, One can't miss their Perfume bottles, their Hair brushes and even the swords guns , weapons used by them. Hey , You will also love their collection of silver & glass artefact's, Crockery, Cradles used by their kids, Musical instruments like Veenas & tamburi (taanpura) all touched by them , I was so thrilled. Now , this is what I call grandeur & living life King size. Simply amazing , I must say !

When I came out of the Palace , I managed to pick up a wall hanging as a memoir of my visit to take back home & get some Royal Mysore touch to my little home.

The Mysore Palace visit, though this was the third or the fourth time for me filled in me a sense of pride that I belong to this place and that I can boast something so good within our culture. A discipline that has come down the lineage and still has found its place so close to our hearts that every year we look forward to the famous Jamboo Savari ( the Elephant Procession) that is part of the Dasara celebrations.

When I stepped out of the palace, There was another interesting feature of Mysore that was awaiting my amused eyes, the Tonga's , there you go , I got the Tonga rider to agree to take me for a ride around the K R Circle for a mere 35 bucks. Tuk tuk , tuk , tuk , the horse ride was fun sitting in a decorated cart , I felt like a mini - princess. Hahaha! However the Tonga took me around the K R Circle , aah ! there is a Statue of of the Krishna Rajendra Wodeyar standing in a majestic Pose and commanding everyone's attention. Mysore , in the real Sense is a city of Royal Majesty. The circle gives shoppers an opportunity to shop for the most famous Srigandha , Mysore Silk and other artifacts that visitors would love to carry back home. Well, I did manage to blow quite an amount trying to resist my temptation for the beautiful pure silks in various colours and combinations. But , No regrets.

When I stepped out of the Mysore Silk Emporium , the sun on the west was reminding me that I should now start heading towards the Suburb Bust Station. It was time for me to bid Bye to the Royal City. I thanked my Tongawala, who did not charge me a rupee extra for having kept him waiting while I shopped & shopped. I could sense that there, Work=Money , while here ( Bangalore) , Time = Money. While I was heading to the Station , I also got to meet the Super Stars of Dasara without make up ( can you believe ) , I mean , the whole herd of Elephants including Balarama and other who are going to be part of Dasara celebrations to be held in a week now. They were all taking their evening walk while I bid Bye to the Royal City.

However, When I came to the Bus Station. My heart was filled with a sense of satisfaction , I was not a wee bit tired despite having roamed the entire day in a new city. A couple of that I cannot miss , this one goes to the people of Mysore who are so service minded, so helpful and also for having maintained the city so beautiful & clean barring some places. Another Thanks to " Cafe Aramane" for a Lovely meal & evening tiffin and their lovely hospitality. Thank You Mysore , Thank you Your Highness !!

Gubbachchi's flight to South Bangalore...

Gubbachchi has found a new found hobby these days,.... visiting new temples. Far from the busy traffic & usual weekend visits to malls, its found a new meaning in just finding bliss by taking off to South of Bangalore , where old Bangalore is still alive.

South Bangalore, is home of Jayanagar, Banashankari , Basavanagudi and other neighbouring places. This part of Bangalore is still special because it has been somehow able to safeguard its virgin beauty (Pardon me for my extreme poetic (?) expressions). The ever so busy Jayanagar Shopping complex, the ever so quite & clean residential areas, the ever so sophisticated book stores, the ever so authentic simple south Indian dishes from those darshini's , hmm.. not to forget the MTR , the Maharaja of Karanataka's delicacies, the ever so green parks, the ever so huge trees, can anybody beat the place which knows to take care of Lalbagh, uff! not to forget the ever so religious temples. Oh! every corner of Jayanagar has a landmark.

Gubbachchi's flight every week to Jayanagar is something that can never be missed for many reasons. Though the most important reason is to go to the Banashankari temple, which has been part of my routine every Sunday. That's the way I connect to my God. Right now the Govt. of Karnataka has taken up the task of reconstructing the temple, so I will definitely keep you all posted about it.

But I definitely want to introduce you to another set of beautiful twin temples in the area of Banashankari. Devagiri & Dharmagiri. Oh , what a bliss. I guess these twin temples have re- written the manner in which temples are supposed to be. Far from commercialisation , these two temples help their visitors attain instant Nirvana ;)

or at least take them to a new world that they were not aware of.

Take a look ;

Call it the right timing when the picture was taken, it makes you feel that the door is definitely the dwaara (door) of Vaikunta. By the way , this is Devagiri, one of the two that I just mentioned. It is the abode of lord Venkateshwara. The temple is situated in an elevated area, the stairs lead you to a platform where on a typical Sunday evening you will find a bunch of cute oldies uttering series of shlokas, you go further and take another set of stairs to get a view of the lord, let me tell you never have I seen another such beautiful idol of Lord Venkateshwara other than in Tirupathi. The temple is so clean & beautiful, surrounded by equally clean residential area, well swept roads, in fact, the area is so quite as if the residents were told not to disturb the lord. To add to that the well maintained park with flowering plants. There's something in the air, that tells you that this is divine and that you are very close to God.

For those of you who want to experience this feeling, I strongly suggest you pay a visit to see the other side of Life in Bangalore. This temple is located in Banashankari, I promise to give you more details about the location & directions in my next post when I take you to the next of the two temples, Dharmagiri.

This one's not a Bird

Yes, its not a bird , but it can still fly. A sheet of paper, a few sticks , a tail & a reel of thread is all that it needs to touch the sky or at least to try. Its our very own Kite, Gaalipata, patang, etc.

Very colourful, full of life while it is flying , feels as if it is trying to paint the sky. Ok now, this is not from any movie, nor am I inspired from the movie "Gaalipata" to write about Kite. But from a long time, I have nurtured this liking towards Kites and Kite flying that just happened to be supported by another discovery that I made regarding that forced me to sit down & pen this article.

Guess what, our amazing line of festivals also includes "Kite Festival" that is celebrated after the first Ekaadasi during the month of Aashaada. Well, the festival though not widely celebrated, seems to be in vogue amongst the rural parts of Karnataka, esply., the Mysore - Mandya region. 'Aashaada', typically falls during the month of July and this month is considered as inauspicious amongst the Hindus. It is mostly famous for the fact that this is the time that our elders do not permit newly weds to stay together. So, the bride is sent back to her parents house for that one month, after which she will return to her husbands house. During this time the Girls parents invite the son-in-law to their house on this particular day after the Ekaadasi. Lots of sweets and "habbada oota" welcome the groom. Friends & relatives gather to fly Kites and celebrate. This is the "Pata'da habba" meaning 'Kite's Festival'. Interesting to know that we have something like this that we were not aware of, or at least I was not aware of.

Long since I have seen any kites flying in the city of Flyovers, I mean Bangalore. Not that we have forgotten this colourful game of trying to connect to the sky , but just that everyone's just got so busy , no one seems to have the time or the inclination towards it. Blame it on the fast growth , Globalisation or call it cosmopolitan culture's invasion. We gain some , lose some. In the trade one of the things lost are the Kites.

Once in a while remembered by our movies and life size events of national & international Kite festivals, we seem to be forgetting the pleasure & fun one could have while flying kites. My earliest memory of kites date back to the days when I use to sit in the backyard of my house and see my brother and his friends fly kites in the playground. Coincidentally, my cousin was sharing with me his love for kites when he was a kid and he use to fight with my aunt begging her to give him money to buy Kites and fly them. It was not only fun but lot of competitive spirits involved amongst the rival gangs to see whose kite flies high, waging war against each other kites and just to see that one of the kites have been cut off by the other & there you see your kite dropping down without any support ..............."ohh!!! how painful it could be!...there are days when I cried that my Kite was cut off" he said. The pain of making the "Maanjha", the glass laced thread that was coloured to add glamour , the rattle that was used to roll the thread......seemed to have got stuck somewhere, may be in some tree or some electric pole, still fluttering and crying out to us asking us to get them down , repair them and fly them once again High in the sky. Gone with the wind

I guess its only after BIAL came in did HAL airport get its name. Till then , we knew it as our very own Bangalore Airport. Now that Bangalore has got its all new, bright & sassy International airport, poor old airport got a distinguishing name "HAL airport" :(

There's a popular belief which says that one doesnt realise the importance of anything or person till he's not next to you anymore ! same is the case with HAL airport and me. It has been my neighbourhood, entertaining my guests who come home and are so impressed seeing these birdies (I mean the planes) so close to my balcony. The last couple of years , I had to live with the unbearable noise that those whales (thats what I call them) created. Let alone the noise they created, imagine the testing. I would 'shoo' them when they made too much noise such that I could not even hear what my TV was saying. I would grin & stare at the Run-way then.....vain! they wouldn't listen. Those rascals !!

It was all like a green sea where these fishes swam just like in an aquarium I created. Just like this video here, I was smart enough to capture them on my camera, before I could bid them Good Bye. Click & Enjoy... Bet ! you'll love them.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v4.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dd2809bbf21e6cc8a%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331078430%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D19CE10086399A156A12E77EF256E2F2260DD142B.643AFF37B4F5C835042F01825E8AC70430A1BBE2%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dd2809bbf21e6cc8a%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DJA2Tz_DQwhE3OT2vZkRKVlH-hwQ&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

But, they are all gone now...... :(

Bye, bye birdies.

It took me a day after the shift had happened to realize what had happened. Suddenly everything was so quiet. What happened? today those rascals seem to be acting good. What are they up to?. I tried to find out peeping through the window quietly. To my surprise even the lights were all gone. My sweet neighbours seem to have shut shop ? !. Quite disturbed I went back to bed. Sleep took over & so did the thought of the planes not being there anymore. It all looks so empty now.....no more evenings when I would go to the terrace and sip on my favourite cup of tea while the planes kept me company. Please come back birdies . I really miss you all .....(wonder what kind of a feeling is this ? can even machines make you cry).....

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hemaaz.blogspot.com/2008/05/hal-to-bial-gone-with-wind.html' title='HAL to BIAL... Just a day now & I have so much to share with you all, you are right, it is the Gubbachchi's view of the Celebrity Blogs & the Hoohaa around it, I'll come to the more serious chapter of Aarushi a little later, though it is something that actually kept me very disturbed of late.

Not that I regularly make it a point to read Amitji's blog religiously everyday but , I definitely have it in my 'Favourites', so that I do not miss the link. For those of you who haven't yet got the opportunity to visit his page , here is the link http://blogs.bigadda.com/ab/. I confess that I also went ahead & posted a comment appreciating Amitji of the platform he has created to exercise his right to defend his & his Family member's individual live's, Like a good "Head of the Family" kind of persona. But, it took not long time for me to feel that the blog was getting a little too loaded with too much of defense ( to the extent he went ahead to defend even Ash's creased outfit that she wore at Cannes) and self explanations which sounded highly opinionated. At times , I also thought he was now using the platform to keep count of many old foes. Sometimes knowing somebody too closely also creates certain situations where you don't like colours of the person that you are seeing. May be the same case ! never expected Amitji could carry so much vengeance in his heart. Well, I still remember my words, it could be just one of his colours, as we can see many others in his writings which actually bring you much closer to the person that he is. But, do we appreciate of him belittling Shahrukh's "Paanchvi Pass" ?

"Rang De Basanti", a film that remains very close to my heart till date, Aamir the hero , irrespective of him not being my 'ultra ' favourite sorts....but still made me recognize the kind of workmanship that runs in his veins, wallah ! I must say he made me think "may be I was too prejudiced about him?". Even till lately most of his movies honestly made me feel guilty that I am reluctant to recognize the talent behind the name. Until, I read his blog http://202.87.41.148/digital/AamirKhan/login.php, however, there are reports that after this episode ( of he calling his dog Shahrukh and all that) Aamir has apologised in public, I wonder how the apology matters after the damage has been done.I am sure a person of your calibre do understand this little fact that the crime has been done.

Well after all, have little idea about how the man in question - Shahrukh has reacted to these. I am sure something will be brewing in his mind & he might be waiting for his opportunity. That's what the blogs have been doing till now. Its seldom that the actors have used the blogs to express their creative straits, but more of a platform to "Give it Back" to whosoever it is.

Though one of the foremost Computer Savvy star in the B-Town, I am glad Shahrukh has not yet taken this way. I mean I only hope that he doesn't tread the path that his predecessor stars in the blog world have laid.

Sharukh !!! if you are reading this , Please , Please , Please, don't go this way. Whether Aamir calls you a ....whatever, whatever,....or Amitji compares cards on your TRP & his... You still Rock. We love you for the kind of Person you are... I think we have an eye to see that selfless hard work that you continue to put in , in each of your projects ( not that others don't), its for the inspiration & motivation that you pass on as you continue to do this. Like you expressed in one of your episodes, a story about a man who " wanted to build the world's most beautiful bridge", continue to give the best to every li'l bit of work that comes your way. You just Rock !!! & will do so till times come. Final Verdict " You are Paanchvi Pass!!!"

Now, about Aarushi - the 14 year old from Noida. Two brutal murders in the country, one in Noida and the other in Mumbai, both have kept the nation shocked to the core, the news channels are buzzing with Flash news' and every channel is presenting the cases to the society in its own way. Now, that one of the cases ( Mumbai one ) is solved, the attention is on the case from Noida where it (Police source) is claimed that the Father killed his own Daughter. The case is getting very complicated. If all the story is to be believed ( about Aarushi having an illicit relationship with the servant which enraged the father), then one needs to wonder as to what is the kind of Up bringing that we are providing to our children. Police claims that in this case, the Father had an illegitimate relationship with one of the family friends and this kept Aarushi upset , eventually she got close to the servant at a very young age of 14. She was also equipped with a cell phone, was very social & outgoing, to the extent she had plans to celebrate her birthday in a Pub ( at the age of 14 , mind you!). Now, is this what Globalisation or in other words Modernisation has taught Parents. Is this what is "Parenting"? If Yes! then , the Future is in front of you in the form of Aarushi's case.

This is a solid alert call to all the people who are new parents or are going to be parents , why? even to people who are planning to go the "Family" way. It is not all Lovey Dovey, Malls & movies, weekends, friends & Parties.... Ok, Ok, I agree they are important , but are we forgetting the responsibility that we need to make good citizens of our Children. Or may be , its time to really "Go Back to the Vedas".

More from Gubbachchi Later.....Take care

Gubbachchi Goodu .....matthu alli bachchitta mutthugalu
